Feile na nGael June 19-21st 2015
We won our first two group games yesterday & face a much tougher Cuchulainn’s of Armagh our host Club this morning. We enjoyed last night in their company & look forward to this morning’s game at 11am. Martin Daly & Mike Mc Carthy are doing great work with the lads & we hope for a good response today.
A top class performance this morning gave St. Brendan’s a win over our host Club Cuchulainn’s Armagh on a score 2-5 to 0-5. It took a great effort to overcome Cuchulainn’s & our lads had to play out of their skin. An early Billy Daly goal set them on their way & with our strong defence in place our forwards piled on the pressure. Nathan O Driscoll, Colm Healy & Darragh Courtney all got on the score sheet. While our defence was under intense pressure Joseph Flaherty, Cian Mc Donagh & David Ryle kept the ball moving. Goalie Sean Brosnan kept a clean sheet & with good puck outs the game flowed. A great team performance & now a semi final place beckons in Monaghan town at 2.30pm. Great support from the travelling contingent & we are being well looked after in Armagh.
Our last Feile game (quarter final) ended badly for us with a defeat to Craobh Rua Armagh. We started well & had a commanding lead for the first ten minutes. Craobh Rua got a goal before half time and reduced our lead 2-4 to 1-5 at the interval. Once again we started well with Billy Daly & Nathan O Driscoll kicking off the scores. Craobh Rua battled hard & gained momentum & at the full time whistle it was a tied game at 3-8 all. Tiredness was now a factor with our lads & we could only manage one point in extra time courtesy of Nathan who was unerring with frees over the two days. Craobh Rua went on to score at will & the extra time ended with them winning 4-12 to our 3-9.
St. Brendan’s & Ardfert can be proud of our U14 hurlers efforts over the two days. They battled hard, displayed all their skills & showed why Kerry hurling is now at the top level.
We commend their efforts & wish them well with their hurling. We would also like to say a few words of thanks to the very vocal supporters who travelled by bus & cars. Their unyielding support was a great source of strength for the young hurlers in their wins & loss.
Congratulations to the pupils of sixth class at Ardfert NS who celebrated their graduation today. We wish you well, especially our U14 hurlers who will travel to Armagh tomorrow to represent Kerry at Feile na nGael. Best of luck for the future.
